Pumpkin Paper Lanterns

I did this with the kids that I nanny for. This craft is super easy and you can do it with any age. I couldn't get a good picture of the ones that we made so this is just an example. Of course the four year old loved this project but, the 19 month old that I nanny for even loved this craft! I drew the face on for him and then he decorated the rest.
You'll need orange construction paper, scissors, black markers, tape, glue and whatever else you want to use to decorate them.
1. First fold your orange paper long way *hot dog style*]
2. Then, cut slits from the fold to the edge (do not cut all the way to the edge or else you'll have a fringed paper instead of a lantern.
3. Unfold and tape the short edges together.
4. Use a strip of paper to create the handle *we used green for a stem*

Here is a worksheet with a critical thinking language/reading activity. I use these for my classes and the kids love it! It gives them a chance to think creatively as well as improve their reading and writing skills. This also encourages critical thinking and using open-ended options to make choices.

Today we painted with spaghetti! This went well with our current cooking theme. I was originally going to cook the spaghetti but, instead we used it raw. This was a great new painting experience. My preschoolers always love doing something new and different.
Slime Day!

Sorry for not many posts lately.. my vacation is coming up! Mexico here I come! But, with a vacation coming there is SOOO much to do! Every Friday in my Preschool class we do "fun fridays". It's a way to unwind from a busy week and have a day full of fun! We sometimes do movie day, pizza party, crazy hair day, sports day, etc. Today to go along with Science week it was slime day! We made 3 different types of slime and had a great time exploring! We talked about different states of matter, what they felt like, etc. Here are some slime recipes!
Goop:
2 Parts Glue
1 Part Liquid Starch
Food Coloring
Put the food coloring & Starch together first, add glue, then mix WITH YOUR HANDS :)
Clean Mud:
Grated bar soap
Toilet paper
Water
Baby Shampoo
We put it in our sensory table & will definitely make it again! They LOVE it!
Oobleck:
2 parts cornstarch
1 part water
Food Coloring
(I would buy at least two small boxes of cornstarch)
I love this slime! I think I like it more than the kids!!!
Flubber:
Warm water
Four tablespoons borax
Food coloring
Two cups glue
Mix the glue, food coloring, and some water in one bowl
In another bowl mix water & borax
I stirred this with my hands as well. This recipe is up to your liking with the amounts you use. If you let it sit out over night it is even better the next day! We keep all of our slime around for a few days!
TGIF Everyone!!! :)
